Born in Texas to a musical family, Andrew JR Boy Jones began his professional career at age 16 playing in Freddie King's backing band. JR Boy Jones has 5 CD's, a W.C. Handy award (best band), and world-wide touring experience under his belt ... and it shows!  Incorporating soul, jazz, ballads, and funk, Jones manages to keep the core of his music rooted in the blues. AUGUST 13TH 2010 - 7 PM

A musical ambassador from Tennessee, Valerie June "blends folk, soul, and even ancient country elements" in her enchanting acoustic performances. A regular at the Memphis Music & Heritage Festival and the International Folk Alliance Conference, June has been internationally broadcasting her unique style to great success.  Valerie has come a long way from Humboldt Tennessee and New York City welcomes her distinguishable talent with open arms.

BILL HOWL-N-MADD PERRY

AUGUST 21ST 2010 - 7 PM

One of the first singers to appear on Soul Train, Mississippi born Bill Perry has been performing and writing blues, gospel, and soul for over 35 years. Playing solo, duo, trio, or with his full band, Perry's music is described as "instantly infectious" and his high energy performances, featuring a mixture of blues classics and "Howl-n-Madd" originals, are a bright spot on his impressive resume. Bill says "I've been doing this a long time. Hopefully it shows. I'm just playing the blues I love."

STEVE GUYGER

Claiming the harmonica as his instrument of choice, Steve Guyger has been studying the blues since his teens. Mastering the intense grittiness of Chicago-style harp playing landed Guyger one of his best gigs in 1980; a call from Jimmy Rogers. Blues Access magazine claims, "All the years ... of touring with the legendary Jimmy Rogers has made Steve Guyger one of the greatest blues harp men in the world." Guyger's performances are enhanced by his fine clear voice and his preservation of harp tradition with a unique and refreshing twist!

CLARENCE SPADY

Raised in Scranton Pennsylvania, where he still lives, Clarence Spady is accredited with defining the 1990's blues scene. Raised by a musical family and encouraged to pursue blues, Spady started touring right out of high school. By the '90's, this singer/guitarist decided to head out and tour with a band of his own. Clarence Spady's skills as a songwriter paired with his solid mastery of guitar transcends typical blues performances, leaving audiences clamoring for more of his unique & intelligent sound.

 IRVING LOUIS LATTIN

 Irving Louis Lattin, another of Chicago's notable music exports, is one of the most desirable talents in the entertainment industry. Called upon for his song writing prowess and blues/funk performances, Lattin's sound has been featured in commercials (Covergirl, Chevy, Pfizers ... etc) and on stages across the world.  Lattin began playing music at age 13 and by the time he was 25, mastered both composition and piano. Although you have probably heard Irving Louis Lattin during your every day life without even realizing it, wake up your consciousness and grab a featured show of his talented song writing and "real-thing" appeal right here at Terra Blues!

BILL & CHANEY SIMS

Bill Sims Jr. doesn’t allow any one blues genre define his personal playing style. Raised in Ohio, Bill Sims turned professional at the age of 14 and went on to learn piano and major in music at Ohio State University. After touring with doo-wop rhythm & blues groups and experimenting in avant-garde jazz, Sims returned to the blues. Bill Sims Jr is considered one of the best NYC guitar/singer front men and comes complete with a 10-hour PBS special on his life’s works. Performing regularly at Terra Blues, audiences have the pleasure of hearing him perform with his talented daughter Chaney Sims. Chaney’s similarly “earthy and relaxed” voice makes her the perfect duet partner. (Time Out NY)

BOBBY BRYAN

An opening talent for Albert Cummings,  Shemekia Copeland & many other nationally recognized artists, this California native has been captivating audiences with his brand of "urban blues" for over 20 years. Bobby is a another successful blues product of Los Angeles's most famous blues club, Babe's & Ricky's. After playing with the house band for years, Bobby was taken on tour with "Arkansas" Larry Davis, an influential Grammy  award-winning blues artist. After years of honing his vocal and guitar talents, Bobby Bryan and his band are a group of blues regulars we can't do without!

GUITAR SHORTY

AUGUST 18th 2010 - 10 PM

Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as a "defiant, electric blues[man] with piercing intensity and raw venom that'll leave your ears singed", Guitar Shorty is in no lack of professional accolades. Hand picked from a Florida performance by the great Willie Dixon, Shorty's fate was sealed as a requested performer. Playing throughout the 50's and 60's with the likes of Ray Charles & Sam Cooke, Shorty finally settled down in Seattle where he wed Marsha Hendrix (Jimi's sister). Recording several records over the years, Shorty's 2004 Watch Your Back thrust him back into the limelight with Living Blues claiming he is "a blues rock original [who plays] screaming, empowered guitar and sings with streetwise defiance."

JOHN LEE HOOKER JR

Johnny Lee Hooker Junior, the son of the late Delta-blues legend Johnny Lee Hooker, was born in Detroit Michigan with the intent to follow in his father's footsteps.  Hooker JR started living "the life of a blues man" at an age when most people haven't touched a guitar. The ensuing fast-paced experience, with its blues greats, major venues and enticing pit falls, have left their mark on Hooker and it shows in his work as "an artist who knows that good singing, playing, and storytelling add up to great music." MICHAEL POWERS FREQUENCY 

Heralding from Bayonne New Jersey, Michael Powers now defines the New York City blues scene. Since settling in NYC in the 1970's, Power's originals and "re-shaped classics" have been dictating the raw essence of real blues in the city for years. JR MACK

A New Jersey native and self-taught guitarist since the age of nine, Jr Mack forged his own path into the heart of the blues. With the collected stage presence of a seasoned performer, Jr Mack lulls, mesmerizes, and reels the audience into a groove all his own. Having sat in or worked with The Allman Brothers Band, Robert Randolph, & many others, Junior Mack's soulful interpretation of the blues never fails to captivate.

BOBBY RADCLIFF

Growing up in Maryland, Bobby Radcliff began his guitar education with classical guitar lessons at the age of 12. Following his initiation into the music world, Radcliff moved to New York City in 1977 where Black Top records took a liking to his “strengths as a soloist, as well as a funky rhythm guitarist”. (WFLR-FM) Having toured the US, Canada, and Europe more than a dozen times Radcliff always leaves audiences stunned with “his jaw-dropping skills as a guitarist.”

THE PIONEERS

The Pioneers got their start at Terra Blues as the legendary backup group that supported Moe Holmes ,former alto and tenor voice of the Holmes Brothers. Created in the early 1990's, the band is comprised of rotating talented musicians After Moe's death in 2008 the current group of JR Mack, Barry Harrison, Brian Killen & Pat Firch carry on in his footsteps.


 

 SARON CRENSHAW

 Whether he is traveling the country disseminating his control of jazz and blues or strolling through the audience playing guitar with his tongue (which happens to be a Gibson "Lucille" model guitar signed by B.B.King), SaRon Crenshaw is a powerhouse performer that leaves an unforgettable impression. This New Yorker's deeply engrained love for all things blues leaves no room for obstacles in life or performance.

STEVE GUYGER AND BOBBY RADCLIFF

Both east coast born Steve Guyger (Pennsylvania) and Bobby Radcliff (Maryland) are working together to keep Chicago blues tradition alive in NYC. Guyger and Radcliff, each having been influenced by blues legends Jimmy Rogers and "Magic Sam" respectively, are two veterans of the circuit that are set to "wow" with every performance.
